Something of an oddity, here – this Macallan 1947 was originally bottled for Italy in 1962 as a fifteen year-old, before being repackaged for the Fine and Rare range. This is likely to be more peaty than today’s Macallan, as the distillery was forced to use peat in the kilns for a few years during and after WWII because of the scarcity and high price of coal.

Part of the revered Fine & Rare series from The Macallan, this 15-year-old expression was distilled in 1947 and originally bottled in 1962, before being re-bottled in 2018. Presented at a strength of 45.4% abv, this release had a total outturn of just 270 bottles.
Nose: The nose is peated with citrus fruits, chocolate orange and vanilla, atop an oaky background note.
Palate: The palate brings light fruits and peat with bitter chocolate and wood spice.
Finish: A peaty finish with lingering fruits.
The Macallan distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Craigellachie, Moray. The Macallan Distillers Ltd, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Edrington Group which purchased the brand from Highland Distillers in 1999.
